This is an afghan that I crocheted for the arrival of our first child, my daughter Laura. The afghan is made of alternating pink and purple granny squares, each one approximately 4-1/2 inches on each side.

This is my favorite baby crochet pattern to use as it was the pattern I first learned to crochet with by my Great-Grandmother. I usually reserve it for births in the family, as it can be a bit more time-consuming that some other patterns. I have also made afghans using the same pattern for the births of my niece and nephew, who are 9 and 5 now.
