A crocheted granny square can be used for many different baby crochet patterns. Granny squares are especially useful when creating crocheted baby blankets. You can create a large number of small granny squares and sew them together, or you can create one large granny square which is the entire blanket. Here I will give the instructions for a very basic granny square pattern.

Abbreviations: This pattern uses the following abbreviations.

Ch = Chain

Dc = Double Crochet

Sl st = Slip Stitch

Sp = Space

Rnd = Round

Notes: This pattern is created in rounds. If creating this for a baby blanket, I suggest using a sports weight or baby weight yarn with a G crochet hook.

Instructions:

Ch 6, join with sl st to form a ring.
